To Apply to Ocean Matters

We're delighted that you're interested in attending Ocean Matters. Our hope is to create a team of enthusiastic and dedicated learners who are well matched to the goals and ethic of the Ocean Matters program. To that end, we want to get to know you better! To apply to the program, we ask that you please submit the following to:

1. A completed application (PDF).

2.  Two letters of recommendation signed across the seal and mailed directly to Ocean Matters (please use the forms provided and downloadable here in PDF)

- an academic reference (PDF): preferably from a science teacher or another high school teacher.

- a character reference (PDF): preferably from an unrelated adult

3. An up-to-date transcript from all high school work completed to date (must include 1st semester 2010)

4. A $25 application fee paid to Ocean Matters.

Candidates are considered for admission on a rolling basis. Please allow 2 weeks from the time of application for your admissions decision. Phone interviews may be required of candidates.

Cost of the Program $5200

Includes: Open Water SCUBA instruction and certification, Advanced SCUBA instruction and certification, Marine Biology Instruction, DAN Insurance (covering any dive-related health needs), Hotel, Food, On-island transportation, Research project, Roundtrip Airfare from Miami to Grand Cayman, and Textbooks.

Excludes: Roundtrip Airfare from home to Miami, SCUBA gear

A limited number of scholarships are available for students who demonstrate both need and merit. To apply, fill out a Scholarship Application Form (SAF) (PDF) and submit it by April 7, 2011. Scholarship decisions will be made by April 22, 2011. Students should also submit an application for admission to be considered for scholarship.
