Parents often tell me when they pick up their children after an Ocean Matters trip: I want to come on one of these! Well, this your chance. This June we will be celebrating World Ocean Month with a Seahorses, Songs, and Seeds of Sustainability trip to the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology on Coconut Island, Oahu, Hawaii, June 22-July 1st, 2015. Join us for a seahorse survey (we will count, size, and GPS locate), performed in waist high water, so accessible for non swimmers and non-scuba divers alike.

Hike through a rain forest on the windward side of the Oahu, tracing the source of fresh water with a native Hawaiian storyteller sharing indigenous wisdom. Sing “Puff the Magic Dragon” and other hits by the water’s edge with Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary.

Hear about the challenges facing the sea, as well as about her beauty and resilience from Brian Skerry’s 20 years of exploring the world’s oceans. Relax with the green turtles, or “honu” in Hawaiian, which haul out on the sands of Laniakea Beach on the north shore. Star gaze and light fires by the water. Explore Oahu’s underwater riches in optional scuba or snorkel trips and partake in other rare experiences that explore the nexus of indigenous knowledge, science, and sustainability.
